The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has reported that the Central Arctic caribou herd, which occupies summer ranges that include the Prudhoe Bay and Kuparuk oil fields, grew sharply in numbers between 2002 and 2008. Fairbanks - The US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) reported it received roughly 52,000 comments from the public during the May public comment period for the ANWR Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP). Washington - The Republican Study Committee (RSC) released their FY 2011 Budget Plan (H.Con.Res. 281) in Washington which includes a provision for the opening of the 10-02 Area of ANWR to oil and gas exploration. Fairbanks – The United States Fish and Wildlife Service ANWR office in Fairbanks Alaska has initiated a Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The CCP is a regularly scheduled conservation review conducted on wildlife refuges nationwide roughly every 15 years to study the use and sustainability issues for a refuge. Anchorage – Former Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska died in a plane crash outside of Dillingham in Western Alaska yesterday.
